TRF’s Week 15 Playoff Pontificator©

Soon after posting last weeks Playoff Pontificator, we had some blog controversy regarding my assessment that we had a 99% chance to make the playoffs at 10-2.  Well, a week later, very little has changed on that front despite the team’s disappointing loss in KC.  Given all the back and forth on the topic last week, I thought it would be good to spend some time explaining how I (and several similar online ‘playoff simulators’) work.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Growing up near the city of Champions is too hard to describe unless you were part of the magic. You see, I enjoyed playing all of the “REAL AMERICAN” sports: Football, Baseball and Basketball. In 1971 I was 7 years old and had already become an avid sports spectator as well. You had Al Davis (who I will talk about more later), Charlie Finley, and Franklin Mieuli. These three men were all different in their ways as the owners of my beloved teams.

Raider Approved Rooting Guide: Week 13

The NFL is now entering it’s final stretch of the regular season. December football is upon us and yet the Autumn Wind is still storming the country. The Raiders’ 9-2 record currently slots them in as the second seed in the AFC. They hold a one game lead over Kansas City, who already have a victory over the Raiders in Oakland.

Skeleton Keys: Week 13

In 1991 the league’s first African-American head coach would lead a silver laden team of football giants to the AFC Championship game.  Despite this incredible social accomplishment, the team would go on to be decimated by Jim Kelley and the Buffalo Bills.
